About 20 years ago, a guy who used to be my brother-in-law gave me a John LeCarre novel for Christmas. I never finished the book, but I got far enough to get this quote that prefaced the book. The quote comes from the Ingush, a Chechnyan tribal people, and I used it as a preface to pulse.
“He who fears the consequences cannot be brave.”
I’ve been carrying that little tidbit around for two decades, and keeping it in mind has helped.
