Fans of classic heavy metal can celebrate; the members of AC/DC have finally ended the long period of speculation and announced that they will be coming back together for at least one more album and tour. Chatter has been happening for a couple of years now, with announcements even going so far as to report things that the band wasn’t ready to say. While everyone concerned and interested felt that such a regrouping was imminent, nothing was concrete until late last month.
Then, it came. After a couple of telling changes to the band’s website, they released “Shot in the Dark,” the first single from the forthcoming, Power Up.
The album features four members of the classic lineup, Angus Young on guitars, Brian Johnson on vocals, Phil Rudd on drums, and Cliff Williams on bass. Stevie Young, Angus and Malcom’s nephew, has been the rhythm guitarist since 2014, replacing his uncle Malcolm, who suffered from dementia.
While Malcolm Young became incapacitated and ultimately died, in November 2017, reports are that a lot of the new music will contain his work that was previously recorded.
The album is produced by Brendan O’Brien (Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Bruce Springsteen, The Killers), who was at the helm of each of the band’s last two albums, 2008’s Black Ice and 2014’s Rock or Bust.
The album is slated to drop November 13, and early reports are that the band will tour, when such is feasible.
For now, we have the track list and the first song. I’ll leave you with those, and I’ll fill you in when more information is available. Rock on, my friends.
